Penalties from 350 to 2,000 euros for mobile phone use or not wearing a motorcycle, reducing the permitted speed in settlements and increasing highways, fines from 2,000 to 8,000 euros for a speed of over 200 kilometers per hour, among other things, foreseen changes in the Traffic Safety Act, according to Alternative Minister of Transport.

In an interview with Greek television Sky, Kiranakis explained that the changes are involved in the law expected today to be submitted to the competent commission to parliament.

More specifically, according to the alternative minister, a cell phone use without causing an accident, a penalty of 350 euros and the deprivation of the driver’s license for 30 days, if it is the first violation.

In the second, the penalty is 1,000 euros and seizing the license for 180 days, and if the driver is caught for the third time to use a mobile while driving, he will have to pay 2,000 euros and will be left without a driver’s license for a year.

Similar penalties are provided for non -use helmets, both by motor drivers and the passenger.

The speed limit, as Kiranakis explained, will be reduced to 30 kilometers per hour for narrow and small streets inside the settlements, 50 kilometers per hour for main city roads, while the limitation will increase to 140 km/h.

The evening at weekends according to Kiranakis is the largest number of traffic accidents with deaths, and with the amendments to the law the goal is to eliminate antisocial driving behavior.

For unauthorized car races and a speed of over 200 km/h, the fines are 2,000, 4,000 and 8,000 euros at the first, second and third offenses, along with the driving license of one, two or four years, depending on whether it is the first, second or third offense.

In the event of an accident with serious bodily injuries, a member of the Criminal Code is activated, which provides for prison sentences up to ten years.

To drive under the influence of alcohol and the overrun of restrictions will bring the vehicle to remove the spider.

Additionally, for parking for a disabled place, registration plates from the offender’s vehicle will be removed, while cyclists will be forbidden to drive on the street.

The alternative Minister of Transport of Greece has said the statistics show that 50 % of the deaths in traffic accidents are motorcycled, most of the factors are older, and 94 percent of all traffic accidents are caused by men’s drivers.
