In the devastating collapse of the roof at the popular nightclub in the Dominican capital, at least 184 people lost their lives, the authorities said late Wednesday, while there was less hope of finding survivors.

The roof crashed on Tuesday, and the families have been gathering in front of the ruins of the Jet Set in Santo Doming, in search of information and sharing photos with the police.

« We will not leave anyone, » said Juan Manuel Mendez, head of the State Emergency Center Operations Center, at a press conference.

Emergency teams will continue to work until the last body is found, but the hope that they will find more survivors under the ruins are getting smaller because no one has been pulled alive in more than 24 hours, Mendez added.

« In the coming hours, there will be a transition from the quest and rescue phase to the body draw phase, » said President Homero Figuero spokesman in the statement.

Families still hope. Together with dozens of others, Alex de Leon in the area around the night club is looking for their ex -wife, their mother’s mother, as well as their close friend.

« Unfortunately, I have no information about where they are, » he said. « My 15 -year -old son is crushed, and a small nine of the nine is still calm because we told him that his mom was at work. »

The relatives and friends of the people who are still guided as missing kept their photos and described the clothes they wore when the tragedy occurred, hoping to help identify their loved ones if they could not be recognized by their face.

The accident happened on Tuesday about 45 minutes after midnight during the concert of the popular Dominican singer Rubby Perez, who himself is among the dead, according to his manager and family members.

Earlier on Wednesday, the authorities reported that 155 people had been rescued from ruins and transferred to hospitals. The exact number of people at the club at the time of collapse is still unknown.
