Stopped time in Chernobyl – Blikk
The disaster was caused by a badly designed experiment at dawn. Simulating an emergency, the staff wanted to find out if the cooling system was working. The power of the four -block reactor was tested, but they forgot to turn on the replacement cooling system. The reactor became uncontrollable, and after two explosions, nuclear melting occurred. The roof of the reactor broke, and the radiant material was glowing for days. Explosions and fire were spread about 3.5-4 percent of the reactor fuel, with a deadly iodine, tellur, cesium, strontium and zirconium into the air, showing the radiation into the atmosphere, thousands of kilometers.
In the immediate vicinity of the nuclear power plant, the level of radiation was so high that one of the workers involved in the resolution work had changed from brown to blue. A total of 330,000 people were moved from the radiated area between 1986 and 2000.
The accident was primarily caused by a human error. In 1987, the leaders of the power plant were sentenced to ten years in prison for violations of safety standards, abuse of service and severe neglect.
