Stopped half of the Kozldui nuclear power plant
The Nuclear Power Plant (CN) Kozlodui in Bulgaria stopped the 5 000 MW unit yesterday, for programmed annual repairs, which should last until mid -June, reports Seenews.
Stopping the unit 5 halves the capacity of the Kozldui plant, which has only one other group – U6, of 1,000 MW. For Romania, it is a good opportunity to increase their exports to the neighbors and to return the trend of recent years, in which we were net exporters. The less good part is that the cheapest energy, generally produced by renewable or hydroelectric, starts from us.
During this period, the boiler will carry out preventive maintenance and modernization works of equipment and systems to ensure the safe and stable operation of the unit, the central operator said in a statement.
As part of a four -year -old transition, launched in 2024, a new batch of fresh Westinghouse Fuel Assemblies (RWFA) made by Westinghouse Electric will be loaded in the reactor.
The other 1,000 MW reactor from Kozlodui, unit 6, works according to the energy production program. It was reconnected on the network in November, after completing a planned annual maintenance, which started in mid -October.
