Still nature with loud people and hopes. Liepaja Theater – Last Season New Production Apartment / Day

« While collecting old things out, repairing, demolishing something, listening to the memories of those around you, replies of those who lived in your home before, and telling your reasons why I am there.

Already at that time, the director told the idea for playwright Rasa Bugavičute-Pēce. But the time passed, and only when V. Silis was confirmed as a member of the board of Liepaja Theater in the artistic field, was the idea. The playwright approach and another point of view put everything « on the shelves ». R. Bugavičute-Pēcce found a prototype for the apartment in Liepaja and figured out how to put the story together-the old apartment was tracking for a hundred years. « The job is not documentary, but we had to find a lot of credible things to say it was once. The room was inspiring, looking for how to fill it, » says V. Silis, who called the work of the stage.

« This is the story of people’s expectations that are on real estate, » the director says. The apartment is over a hundred years old and the events there begin to take place in 1933. Does the premises have memory? Do they store stories about each resident? Have they retained all the laughter, tears, smiles and quarrels? This question is difficult to answer, but despite the fact that every young resident comes with their own spatula, wallpaper rolls and color cans, anyone who lived there has left their own traces. Are they the same ones they had hoped for in this apartment? What worried people in 1933, 1940, 1970, 1998, 2010, 2025? These are six time lines where the characters live along the show.

« It’s like a private history. Although people often say they are not interested in politics, it is interested in people, » says V. Silis, adding, « the age, certain situations change the attitude towards what is happening. »

The show features a large ensemble of actors, each of them, except Anda Albuzi, who will be Velte aunt, will play several roles – Anete Rimkus, Walt Skuja, Armands Kašelis, Rolands Beķeris, Laura Jeruma, Karlis Erglis, Signe Dancīte, Signe Dancīte, Madara Kalna, Madara Kalna
