Stewardess shares controversial list of things that all travelers should do when staying at hotel

And now the 32-year-old has issued an important warning to anyone living in a hotel when they are traveling, which has made many people feel ‘frightened’. Many stewards – like herself – do not always feel safe when they are away from home.

« While unpacking skin care products, we scan the space, as if it were a crime scene, » she told Luxury Travel Daily.

« And no – it’s not paranoia. It’s instinct shaped by many years of sleeping in strangers around the world – often alone and often as easy goals. »

In a video that has gained 2.4 million views and 240,500 likes, Barbiebac reveals how to secure your own security.

Check mirrors

Her first tip is, according to the British Media Daily Mail, to inspect the mirror if there is one in the room – as that may not be what it seems to be.

« Two-way mirrors are found-like those used in interrogation room. We always make the fingertip test. If there is a distance between your finger and its mirror image, it is a regular mirror. If your finger touches directly at its mirror image, it can be a problem, » she said.

Lock your toothbrush inside

While many travelers choose to store their toothbrushes in the bathroom in their hotel room, Barbiebac, originally from Spain, says it is not the safest place.

« We’re not just afraid of theft. We’ve heard horror stories about staff using guests’ toothbrushes for nasty things, » she said.

« That’s why many of us keep our toothbrushes, medicine and hygiene products in the safe. We take no chances with anything to be in the mouth. »

Security check

Before you relax and settle, the 32-year-old has some points to be crossed on the checklist.

« Check behind the curtains, under the bed – and under the sheets of bedbugs – as well as in cabinets. Also behind ventilation grilles, smoke alarms and alarm clocks, » she said.

« Some from the herd even bring portable devices that can detect hidden cameras or unknown signals. And when it’s time to sleep, many additional precautions use. A portable lock that reinforces the hotel door. »

« And a doorstop alarm that howls if someone is trying to get in. Only then can we really rest. »

Avoid free products

Barbiebac says you should avoid free products in the hotel room, as you never quite know who else has touched them – and why.

« Unless sealed, we probably don’t touch it. Mugs in the bathroom are often just rinsed and not sterilized. Duvets and pillows are rarely washed. Wall dispensers with shampoo or soap can be refilled – or worse: contaminated, » she said, and continued:

« Towels and pillowcases are recycled sometimes and the toilet paper may not have been changed. The kettle – forget it. Some cook noodles or sausages in it, or wash underwear or hygiene products therein. We have our own portable kettle, as well as pillowcases and small towels. »

Next time you live in a hotel, she says, you should ask yourself, ‘What would a stewardess do?’.

« We are not paranoid – we are experienced. Maybe you are sleeping a little better, » she eventually added.
