Sterjovski concerned about the constant pressure of the Bulgarians, seeks more attention to the Macedonians, the Macedonian and Albanian governments

The leader of the Macedonian Party, the Macedonian Alliance for European Integration (MAEI) and MP candidate Vasil Sterjovski, hosting the Sot7 television show « Konak » on the question of whether he feels concern about the continued pressure of the Bulgarians in the direction of Macedonians in Albania.

– Yes, I’m worried. See. We are really under constant pressure for assimilation, and now at the moment, and in 2017, when a non -existent Bulgarian minority was recognized under Bulgarian pressure, which was approved by parliament, but under the threat of a Bulgarian veto. This is confirmed by the fact that at the moment when the Albanian Foreign Ministry submitted a draft law on the protection of national minorities, it proposed recognizing eight minorities without the Bulgarian, but « after Bulgaria openly threatened with a veto, then the government and the opposition have joined the vote and with one amendment. Indifferent.

That is why, he added, two months ago our party, MAEI invited the Macedonian parliamentary parties to Korca.

– Macedonia must take work with the Macedonian community in Albania seriously. Not to remain indifferent. He has to make a strategy, along with the Albanian government and with concrete investments, and with concrete projects, to help these people not leave their areas and preserve their language, culture and tradition. If we do not have a long -term strategy of this kind, we are on the way to disappear in Albania, because this empty space is filled by Bulgaria, with all those donations, with all those activities it is doing. That’s why she makes them – he concludes.

It also responds to the question « Why is Macedonians needed by Bulgaria?

-Because we live along the Albanian-Macedonian border, and Bulgaria leads the struggle with Macedonia, with the Macedonian people. By wanting to create « Bulgarians » on the borders with Macedonia, she wants to show that Macedonia is surrounded by Bulgarians from all sides and cannot exist in the middle of the Macedonian people. That is why all these attempts to assimilate us in Albania – emphasizes Sterjovski.

Therefore, he says, we seek « even more attention from the Macedonian government, together with the Albanian, normally within the framework of cooperation, to help these residents improve their living conditions, not to leave, but to stay and develop and preserve their Macedonian identity. »
