Steps to canonize some holy women
The BOR Synod approved the beginning of the steps to canonize some Holy Romanian women, for 2026. Next year it is declared the homage of the pastorate of the Christian family and the commemorative year of the Holy Women in the Calendar – Mironosites, Muceniţă, Cuvioase, spouses and mothers.
According to a statement of the Romanian Patriarchate, transmitted Agerpres, also in Thursday’s meeting, the Holy Synod took note « with hope and blessing » by the desire of some Romanian Orthodox communities in Ukraine to return to the Romanian Orthodox Church.
The BOR management also established to take place on April 17, on the Great Thursday, the consecration of the great myrrh, in the context in which then the members of the Holy Synod will be present in Bucharest.
In the Thursday meeting, a new bishop of the Episcopate of Sălaj-PS Benedict Bistrita, bishop-vicar of the Archdiocese of Vad, Feleacului and Cluj and a university lecturer at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Cluj-Napoca was elected. Along with this, the Metropolitan Synod of the Metropolitan Church of Cluj, Maramureş and Sălajului has proposed for this service the archimandrite Samuel Cristea, teacher and spiritual at the Metropolitan Orthodox College of Cluj-Napoca.
The Holy Synod was also approved the status and eparchial coat of arms of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Before the meeting of the Holy Synod was performed Te Deum, by His Excellency Nectaria de Bogdania, bishop-vicar of the Archdiocese of Chisinau, for the opening of the synodal works and the commemoration of 107 years from the Union of Bessarabia with Romania (March 27, 1918). In the end, the memory of the Bessarabian makers of the Great Union was honored, the source said.
