Stellantis is now managed by the United States

The new Stellis boss Antonio Filosa will be based in the USA, while its predecessor Carlos Tavares was based in Europe, as a spokesman for the group confirmed on Tuesday.

The 52-year-old Italo-Brazilian, who was appointed head of the fourth largest automotive group in the world on May 28, will continue to be located in Detroit (Michigan), from where he headed the group for the American continent, said Stellantis, confirming a message from Les Echos.

It will also be paid in dollars, with an annual basic content of $ 1.8 million ($ 1.6 million), which is supplemented by numerous bonus payments. From 2026, in his first full year as managing director, Antonio Filosa could receive a maximum of $ 18 million (15.8 million euros).

This change is highly symbolic for Stellantis, a group that was founded in 2021 by the merger of the French PSA (Peugeot, Citroën, Opel) and the Italo-American Fiat Chrysler. Europe is the largest market in the group in volume, but it achieves the majority of its profits in North America, where difficulties in 2024 accelerated the fall of Tavares.

Antonio Filosa « will work all over the world, » emphasized the spokesman for Stellantis. By the way, the manager devoted his first trip after his appointment to the historic Peugeot plant in Sochaux (Doubs).

He must be officially introduced to his office on July 18 at a general meeting of the group’s shareholders. In the meantime, the Board of Directors must give him the powers of a general director from June 23. Stellantis includes the brands Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, Vauxhall, Free2Move and Leasys.
