On Monday May 26, on a walnut slide in Narva, chemicals from ticks will be treated. Residents of the city are asked to refrain from visiting recreation areas, natural paths and other places of accumulation of people.

Processing is carried out using special tools in order to reduce the danger of Borreliosis and tick -borne encephalitis. The products used can be dangerous for young children and pets.

Sofya Khomyakova, head of Narva Linna Arendus, told the Narva newspaper that the recommendation is valid only on the day of processing. “On Monday, if the weather allows, processing will be completed. You can visit the walnut hill the very next day. Specialists will navigate on the spot, but first of all we are talking about public places – natural paths, a package for tubing, grill sites and other places where people rest, ”Khomyakova said.

The drugs used are called acaricides, and are usually sprayed using ranger or tractor sprayers. At the same time, trees and bushes are rarely processed – ticks usually in wait for their victim in the grass up to 1 meter high.

The season of ticks is in full swing

In Estonia in 2025, the active season of ticks was observed, which began in April and probably last until November. The soft winter contributed to the early awakening of ticks, which become active at temperatures above +5 ° C.

According to the data in May 2025, in Estonia 346 cases of lime disease and 7 cases of tick -borne encephalitis were registered. Although these indicators are lower than in the same period last year, the risk of infection remains high. Ticks are increasingly found not only in forests, but also in city parks, gardens and summer cottages.
Studies show that about 62% of ticks in Estonia are carriers of at least one pathogen, including pathogens of lime, anaplasmosis and tick -borne encephalitis. In some regions, such as Tartumaa, the level of infection reaches 77%, while in Ida-Virumaa it is about 39%.
