Statistics of murders characterize the country’s internal security / day

In Latvia, the number of new criminal cases for intentional murders (Articles 116 to 118 of the Criminal Law) per 100,000 population in 2024 (4.27 criminal cases) was even higher than in 2010 (3.87 criminal cases). This is shown by statistics compiled by the Information Center of the Ministry of the Interior. At the same time, it should be noted that in the last ten years, the number of new criminal cases for intentional murder, counting per 100,000 people, was amazingly stable in Latvia.

Criminal cases under three articles of the Criminal Law are crucial in statistics – Article 116 (murder), Article 117 (murder in aggravated circumstances where murder is associated with robbery, rape, rape, special cruelty, etc.) and Article 118 (murder guilt in particularly intensifying U.

In the year 2024, 80 criminal proceedings were initiated after all three articles of the Criminal Law. Most (67.5%) of them were for the murder without guilt, while 8.75% of the criminal proceedings were for the murder guilt in extremely aggravated circumstances.
