The 2-year-old girl who was seriously injured in the accident in Wijnegem on Sunday is still criticism. Her condition would be stable. The girl’s father appears on Tuesday before the investigating judge, he was drunk behind the wheel of his truck.

It should have been a nice trip during the Easter holidays. The 35-year-old truck driver from Deinze had taken his two-year-old daughter in the truck. The man worked for a transport company specialized in transporting animal feeds and had to deliver grain in Schoten on Sunday.

However, things went completely wrong on Houtlaan in Wijnegem. For an unclear reason, the man lost control of the steering wheel. The truck went through the central reservation, scamped a lighting pole and uprooted a large tree. That tree crowded the windshield of the cabin on the passenger side, just where the man’s daughter was.

Under police supervision to hospital

The girl was seriously injured and received medical worries on the spot. Then she was brought with ambulance and mosquito to the Antwerp University Hospital (UZA) in Edegem. Her condition was criticism on Sunday evening, the day after the accident that is still the case. The victim would be stable, the local police confirms Minos.

The girl’s father took a positive alcohol test immediately after the accident. He also needed care, but was then arrested for interrogation. « The 35-year-old man will be brought before the investigating judge on Tuesday, » confirms spokesman Kato Belmans of the Antwerp Parket. « He is suspected of unintentional blows and injuries, alcohol intoxiation and not holding control of the vehicle. »
