Start work on Union Plane
The restoration works of the foundation of the Unirii floor begin on Tuesday, and the traffic on Splaiul Independence, between the United Nations Square and the Unirii Square will be restricted.
‘We begin to restore the Union floor! The first in areas where we will work are the one in front of Manuc’s Inn and Unirii Park. During the works, the traffic on Splaiul Independence, between the United Nations Square and the Unirii Square, is restricted, except for the river, « announced the mayor of Sector 4, Daniel Băluță, on Facebook.
According to the mayor, the following bypass routes can be used:
* from Corneliu Coposu and University – provisional road through the Unirii Park;
* From Calea Victoriei will be the route: United Nations – Parliament Palace – Unirii Boulevard;
* From Heroes – the right on Libertăţii Boulevard is made, then left on Unirii Boulevard.
The building permit for the restoration of the Union’s floor was signed by Nicușor Dan on his last day of mandate of the general mayor.
Daniel Băluță recently announced, in a press conference, that, according to the building permit, the works will consist in the regeneration of public spaces in the Unirii Square area, the restoration of the structure of the Dâmbovița river, of the Unirii floor, almost 100 years old, of the edilitary networks, signaling and road markings, on the road, and temporary interventions on artesian fountains.
The works will be divided into four distinct areas: the portion in front of Manuc’s Inn, the one in the park in front of the Unirea store, the one in the Fântânilor area and the one from the Unirii passage.
The park in front of the Unirea store will be surrounded, the trees will be transplanted, some will be relocated, others cleared, and others will be planted.
In order to restore the floor, in both stages of work the builders will start with the sale, the removal of the beams, the old pillars and their replacement with new elements. In the end, it will be a completely new structure, the mayor said.
With this work, the tram line that comes from Saint Friday will be united with the tram line existing at the base of the Metropolitan Hill.
‘We need to intervene also regarding the Union passage, which is also an important part of this project. The estimated time in which we will intervene in this direction is somewhere between spring and summer 2026, when we estimate that we will close the Union passage, after (…) the work phases we are talking about will be concluded, an occasion with which we will strengthen it, on one side, and, on the other hand, we will succeed. The tram does not carry the weight of the rails nor the tram, « said Mayor Băluță, who estimated that the works on the Union floor, passage and tram will take about three years.
