Start smoking grass before they taste alcohol
The drug use of children and adolescents in Iceland is more common than many suspect, according to Rúna Ágústsdóttir, alcohol and drug advice at the Parents’ House.
Rúna has over four decades of experience, as an alcohol and drug addict, and specializes in working with children who have not reached age with their families.
« They are the most smoking grass. It’s quite number one, two and three, » Rúna replies when asked about the drugs that young people today seek the most.
« There are a lot of people who do not see grass as drugs. »
Grass is not « just » grass
In total, she believes that almost a thousand young people and their families look to their parents’ house each year either because of fiction or addiction. Consumption of cannabis says it is the most common among young people today, but alcohol consumption is followed.
« I would like to point out that even though you smoke » just « grass, you can get really sick and a long -term addict on it. This is often so much misunderstanding, ”says Rúna.
« I have worked in all kinds of places, inside the dewatering stations and all the way, and I have seen how sick people come in with a lot of cannabis smoking. »
According to Runa, parents should look at the cannabis consumption of their children more lightly than the consumption of stimulating substances such as amphetamines. Such an attitude condemns and says full reason to take on cannabis smoking firmly as soon as it is discovered.
« Parents do not realize what the grass is dangerous to teenagers.
« Those who I meet and maybe most teenagers who are not getting sick of drug disease. There are also good news that those who start using cannabis regularly for some time that a large part of them also stop. Either with intervention or some kind of remedies. »
Lost the years
Runa says it is natural for a fictitious and curiosity to be seen at some point in the lives of young people, but it is necessary for parents and guardians to be aware and vigilant for the dangers that can cause and cause irreversible harm.
« But what can happen at this time and during these ages; 14, 15, 16, 17 and maybe 18, these are maybe five years for these kids and then maybe they quit but we call this lost years because what has happened while they do not continue in college, you may start but you may not, You have not been with your peers and have stagnated and they know it completely themselves, they feel it. «
