In April, a new director was appointed at the Narva school for adults. More than 20 candidates participated in the competition for this position, and Stanislav Everzhitsky won from Tallinn. Today he became a guest of our editorial office and spoke about his experience in the field of education and plans for the leadership of the school.

Who is who

Stanislav is from Tallinn, where he studied at the Estonian sports gymnasium, and then graduated from a Tallinn University: in 2007 he received a master’s degree in psychology, and in 2021 a doctoral degree in the field of pedagogy. Even during the study at the university, Stanislav began teaching at the department, but notes that this accompanied his main activity.
“In 2016, I became the director of the school in Virtsu and then for the first time I felt what it was to be a teacher. It was also a concomitant lesson, because my main activity was in the leadership of the school, but in combination I led lessons and was a class teacher, ”says Stanislav Everzhitsky.

But still, the experience of leading an educational institution is closer to him than teaching, since after five years as the director of the Virtsu school in the Parknusky district, he headed the Randwehi school on the Viimsey Peninsula for several more years. In his work, Stanislav considers it important that the role of the director is not to interfere with teachers. This is partly a joke of one of the colleagues in the field of education, but it has a certain share of truth.
“The basic principle of my work is built on three values. Firstly, this is professionalism, that is, everyone should do what he can. A teacher of physics, Estonian language, literature, however, no matter what subject, a professional in his field. The second is responsibility, that is, if you go to the students, you have a huge responsibility to them, to yourself and to the school. And together with responsibility comes trust. I can trust a person if he knows what he is doing, and is responsible for his actions, ”says Stanislav Everzhitsky.

News from the inside

For candidates for the position of director of the Narva school for adults, interviews were conducted, and it was also necessary to complete the task – to describe their vision of the development of the school and its future. Stanislav Emilica managed to occupy this position, in his opinion, thanks to experience and personal qualities. On April seventh, the first working day of the new director took place. According to him, he accepted the school in excellent condition and considers it an institution with great history and solid traditions.

“It seems to me that it is very noble to give everyone the opportunity to everyone, including more mature people who, for one reason or another, did not manage to finish education at a certain stage of life, get it now. And if we talk about plans, then a global plan for all schools, where at some point the language of learning was Russian, was one: in 2030, switch completely to estono-language training. But we will do it gradually, ”said Stanislav.
In his opinion, if the students who studied in Russian until the ninth grade, transferring fingers to Estonoy -language learning by clicking, this will not motivate them to study further. In addition, teachers need support for both linguistic and subject-language integration. And by the way, in this area, Stanislav has its own proposals, since for several years he worked at the Institute of the Estonian language, where he, together with his colleagues, was engaged in advising teachers on transition to the Estonian language.
“Now my former colleagues and I are discussing the possibility of a project for language counseling this fall for teachers of our school. This will be additional training on subject-language implementation. Experts will help teachers teach both the language and the subject together, ”says Stanislav.

Two simple questions
– What is most important in the profession of a teacher?

The first thing that is important, in my opinion, is the ability to put and observe your professional boundaries. The second is to constantly engage in self-development, improve their qualifications, learn something new. And the third is the desire to teach, the desire to develop those to whom you are at the board, the desire to help if the student wants to study or, perhaps, does not want to, then the teacher must find even the smallest hook and give the opportunity to develop each student.

– How do you see education for adults in the modern world?

I would probably not make a difference between a regular secondary school and an adult school. Indeed, now you can get information anywhere, but it is worth wondering how much this information is needed, how verified it is and how much contributes to the development of a person as a whole. The role of the school in these points is. The school should direct and show both opportunities and potential dangers that are associated with improper use of information. The school will help to catch the same fish from the entire information ocean. Artificial intelligence will never replace the teacher, even in the future his role is to help students think critically and manifest themselves. And collective work in the classroom is also important, when a person does not remain with the formation of one on one, and together with the others is dealing with complex topics.

Another life

In Narva, Stanislav Emilitsky had visited, here he has friends and his favorite places appear. For example, the descent to the promenade near the school for adults. Since Stanislav is engaged in walrus and swims in winter, for himself he discovered that this can be done on Lipovka. In addition, the director of the school for adults plays sports and makes long run.

“It seems to me to find a lesson and the opportunity to develop, get some aesthetic pleasures everywhere and always. And Narva provides a million opportunities for this. I would really like to get to know this city better, and I will try to do it over the summer, ”said Stanislav Everzhitsky.
