Spectacular top sport and exciting show: The arena of the Coque has been all about sports acrobatics in the past few days. The European Championship in this modern turndiscipline took place for the first time in Luxembourg and ended on the Easter weekend with high -class finals.
The local organizers also earned a gold medal. Luxembourg’s gymnastics association Flgym received a lot of recognition for the event. « The organization was absolutely great, » said Yonatan Fridman from Israel, who won three precious metal with his partner Amy Refaeli in mixed competitions, including gold in all-around.
« We can definitely praise the Luxembourgers very much, » said Lisa Worthmann, General Director of the continental association European Gymnastics. She received many positive feedback from the participants. « Everything went smoothly. » One hope for further events in Luxembourg.
In sports acrobatics there are title fights for male, female and mixed couples, for trios and for groups with more than three members. The disciplines are balance (holding static poses with lifting figures), dynamics (with throws and salts) and combinations of both. The athletes impress with perfection and absolute body control.

Gold medal winner
Like the Ukrainian couple Ivan Labunets and Yevrosyniia Kryvytska, who won gold in the balance competition and silver in the all-around. « We are very happy that our many working hours have paid off. The competition was hard, » said Labunets. The two also felt very comfortable in the coque. « The atmosphere was great, » said his partner.
Logistics also received a lot of praise, including public transport in Luxembourg. A total of around 1,200 participants had come to the arena since April 10. Initially, the age group competitions for young people up to 18 years took place, then the actual European Championship for adults and juniors. According to the FLGYM, the budget was around 1.5 million euros.
Great honor: gymnastics will soon be named after Luxembourg?
Sports acrobatics have not yet been established in Luxembourg, so no local gymnasts took part in the European Championship. For the FLGYM, she was the second major international event after the European title fights in Teamgym 2022. With such events, Luxembourg’s third largest sports association would like to promote gymnastics and its variety.
« We are very satisfied, » pulled the EM coordinator and FLGYM general secretary Silvio Sagramola a positive conclusion: « We saw that we were able to master all questions and challenges that were brought to us. »
