Sporting wins and convinces
Sporting won an important victory in Rio Maior (3-1), a field where the great rival Benfica lost a few weeks ago. The lions entered the game well and, at the end of the first half, won 2-1, with goals from Gonçalo Inácio and Viktor Gyökeres. Casa Pia even reduced over the break with a stir of Esgaio.
At the beginning of the second period, Casa Pia was more dangerous and had the opportunity to draw. The game was decided with the great penalty converted by Gyökeres – the Swedish scored the 27th goal in the Portuguese League and was elected the man of the game. From that moment on, the lions took over the match and imposed the third home defeat to Casa Pia, who has not lost in his (borrowed) stadium since August last year.
Rui Borges's team leads with three points of advantage over Benfica, but the incarnates have a delayed game against Gil Vicente, scheduled on March 28. “We got in well in the match and marked early. It was a competitive game, but in a move that was controlled we let the opponent score and gain confidence. The substitutions passed energy to the team, we grew up and controlled the game. The team is breathing and the victory is more than deserved, ”said Rui Borges, Sporting coach.
Alexandre Santana stressed his team's work “In the first part Sporting was happier. In the second half we went very well, we were better and tried to get around, but then the penalty came up. Despite everything, we did a good display, ”concluded one of the elements of Casa Pia's coaching staff.
