Speculation of early departure of Lagarda from ECB to WEF
President of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde is, according to the founder of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Klaus Schwab with him discussed early departure from the European Central Bank to take over the leadership of the World Economic Forum in about half a year, Schwab told Financial Times.
According to him, he met with the President of the ECB to agree on her takeover of the post of Chief Executive Director at WEF, and finally discussed this topic in early April in Frankfurt, « to discuss the transfer of leadership (in WEF), and I would remain at the helm until he was ready to take over the management at the latest in 2027. »
According to the Brussels Portal, Politico added that he had « planned » for several years to succeed Lagarde. Schwab, who left WEF last month for allegations of serious financial irregularities, said he had edited that Lagard would rent an apartment in Geneva, where WEF has his seat.
ECB: Lagarde determined to end his term of office
The ECB spokesman denied Schwab’s claims and, according to Reuters, claimed that « Lagarda President has always been fully committed to fulfilling her mission and is determined to complete her term. » The WEF spokesman, however, said when the article in the Financial Times commented that « WEF cannot comment on any confidential discussions that may have been held between our former President and Mrs. Lagarde. »
Christine Lagarde, 69, is the eight -year presidential term (without recurrence) at the ECB at the end of October 2027. So far, she has been a frequent participant in the elite economic forum in Davos, also in the possibility of the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund.
