Solidarity march at Ungheni by « denim Day » – the angle – see the world as it is!
Women and men from various institutions in Ungheni recently participated in a march dedicated to the campaign « Denim Day », a global initiative that promotes zero tolerance to sexual violence and combats myths and prejudices associated with this phenomenon.
« The purpose of this campaign is to condemn violence and sexual harassment. We intend to know that every woman has rights and can denounce the abuses, even the most subtle. We want an informed community, which will continue this beautiful tradition of the day of the jeans, » said Cristina Ghizdari, the manager of the service.
Dressed in jeans or denim clothes, participants – young, adult and elderly – wore banners against sexual violence and sent a solidarity signal to the victims.
« We support women to tell their pain, defend their rights and not tolerate abuse of any kind. Today we wear jeans to show that we are with them and that they have the right to protect their body and dignity, » said Natalia Sajin, the director of the « Academy of Children » in Ungheni.
« It is a signal for abusers, who still believe that clothes justify violence. By this march, we clearly convey that the way we dress is not an invitation to abuse. Each person has the right to choose their clothing without fear of becoming a victim, » said Mădălina Goian, a student at the « Vasile Alecsandri High School ».
For his part, Oxana Timoșco, deputy director of Theoretical High School « Gheorghe Asachi », added: « It is an action of solidarity for all the women who have been harassed. It does not matter what we are dressed, it matters that we are human beings and we deserve respect. »
The march was held on the route between the in-law market and the « Little Cluj » Park, where each participating institution inscribed on the banks here the number of trust line for women and girls, a symbolic gesture for the support given to the victims.
The regional integrated service for the sexual victims in Ungheni offers assistance to women from six districts: Ungheni, Călărași, Sangerei, Nisporeni, Telenești and Falesti. It is the first such service service and, so far, has supported about 50 women who have been victims of rape attempts or sexual harassment.
The « Denim Day » campaign is based on a real case in Italy, after which a controversial decision of the court has sparked international protests. As a gesture of solidarity, women in the Italian Parliament wore jeans, and that gesture became the symbol of a global campaign against sexual violence. The event was organized with the support of the organization a Women Moldova and the International Center « La Street ».
