Solidarity and involvement for a better future – the angle – see the world as it is!
In Mănoilești commune, an initiative with a special impact makes its presence felt, changing the lives of the elderly and promoting solidarity between generations. A mutual support group Mănoilești was created within the project « Improving the social participation of people from Moldova by developing the old -friendly pilot communities », implemented by Helpage Moldova with the support of the Federal Government of Germany (BMZ). Through its various activities, the group offers opportunities for socialization, personal development and active participation in the life of the community.
Reading, film and folk traditions
Among the appreciated initiatives are the meeting with the writer Rodica Toma, who inspired the participants to discover the joy of reading and creativity. The libraries in the locality, that of the gymnasium and the village, received in a gift volumes signed by the author, giving children and adults access to quality literature.
Another remarkable activity was the organization of the therapeutic movie views. GSR members participated in the projection of the film « Carbon », discovering benefits of this type of therapy, which combines relaxation with the reflection of social and cultural themes.
Local traditions are carefully kept by intergenerational sessors. By Saint Andrew, the folk craftsman Lidia Moraru hosted an event where the participants guarded the garlic and learned more about the ancient habits. The participants sang, joking, spending that evening.
Promoting a healthy lifestyle
GSR Mănoilești members place a special emphasis on health. Practicing northern walking is one of the favorite activities, because it trains over 90% of the body muscles and stimulates energy.
In an information session, the nutritionist Mariana Verbina gave participants tips on balanced diet, the importance of hydration, sleep and the correct food.
Another impact initiative was the round table « aging with dignity », where GSR members discussed with the local authorities about the existence of conditions for the elderly. Priority problems were addressed and solutions have been proposed to support active and healthy aging.
Art, culture and plans for the future
The festival « Day of the People's Port » brought to the fore the traditional crafts through workshops supported by local artisans. In addition to promoting the culture, the group supports the integration of the elderly in the community through psychological counseling sessions, advocacy and organizational communication training.
The mutual support coordinator, Margareta Moraru, emphasizes the importance of future projects: « The future plans of GSR Mănoilești include the creation of a community center for the elderly, the arrangement of a multifunctional land for sports activities and accessing the local infrastructure. »
