Solidaries for the truth – the angle – see the world as it is!

Today we mark the International Day of Freedom of Press, established in 1993 to celebrate a fundamental right and remind the whole world how important a free and independent press is in a society that wants democratic.

If we are to look in the past, regardless of the governments that have perished, it was 32 years of continuous struggle to defend our rights and 32 years in which we have accustomed you that the right to free expression is for all.

32 years old, we think it is a good time to ask ourselves: What does a free press actually mean?

For us, those who have chosen our job, the free press means more than the lack of censorship. It means not having political patrons, not promoting hidden agendas and you can tell the truth, even when it is uncomfortable. The free press means equally correct and balanced materials, but also the power to withstand economic pressures, misinformation, intimidation, physical or online attacks.

What holds us on the waterline? Passion for journalism and the courage to go ahead, day by day. Yes, the free press is not perfect, but it assumes the errors. The free press learns and corrects.

Whenever the independent press is attacked – directly or subtly – let’s ask: What would our world look like without information from uncontrolled sources and no stands to which we can expose ourselves? For us, it would be a vulnerable world, and democracy would be an illusion.

Today, on the Day of Freedom of Press, we do not ask for applause or greetings. We ask for respect for the truth, support for those who seek it and a common commitment to preserve the light of heated freedom.
