Soft towels, absorbing as new
Housing
We all know that moment when we remove a cloth from the closet in the bathroom and instead of the well -known soft feeling – the fabric looks rough, it does not absorb water properly, and sometimes there is even a stint. You don’t need anything special or expensive – just alcoholic vinegar and baking soda, two ingredients we all have in the kitchen. Vinegar and baking soda are a powerful combination when used properly, because together they effectively remove bacteria, eliminate unpleasant odors, break down detergent deposits and soften the fabric. However, there is an important point that many neglect – these two ingredients should not mix directly with each other, as they chemically neutralize each other. Therefore they should be used in stages, and best – when washing manually.
To get started, prepare a clean large container or bucket. Pour warm water into it – not too hot, so as not to damage the fibers of the fabric – and add half a cup of plain alcoholic vinegar. Stir the water to evenly distribute the vinegar. Then soak one or more towels, making sure they are completely immersed. Allow them to stand in the vinegar for about 30 minutes. During this time, vinegar will act as a natural disinfectant and softener – removes germs and unpleasant odors, but also helps to break down the traces of softener and detergent that are accumulated in the fabric over time. When it takes half an hour, remove the towels from the water and add a quarter cup of baking soda in the same water. The mixture will begin to foam – it is a sign that a chemical reaction has begun. Baking soda is a natural deodorant, softener and fat remover, so it is great for towels that come in contact with skin, creams, makeup or oils. After adding the baking soda, return the towels to the water and mix gently, rub them and fold for a few minutes. This step is important because it initiates « mechanical washing » that further improves the cleaning effect. Then remove from the water and rinse them under cold water. Wash them thoroughly, until the water that turns out to become clear and until you feel the towels are « clean » under your hand – without a « slippery » feeling, no foam and no unpleasant odor. This whole process is not difficult, but it requires a little patience.
