Soaring expectations of Germany about Ukraine

The so -called European power collection for Ukraine is now available. A meeting after a meeting is held without any truly important decisions on, for example, funding.

One reason is that Europe’s Ukraine policy is economically dependent on Germany. Berlin has at this time been paralyzed for six months. From November last year, when the government crisis flared up, Europe has been waiting for Germany to return to the international scene.

The new government, which Friedrich Merz had hoped would be ready for Easter, is still not appointed. The negotiations between the Christian Democrats and the Social Democrats have dragged on over time. To take an example: The Social Democrats’ member vote on government cooperation will only end on Tuesday. (It is not possible – the number of members to vote is 358,000.)

In the meantime Suitable for Russia to take advantage of every opportunity to place Germany in an uncomfortable position. The Russian ambassador traveled to Torgau in Saxony last Friday. He attended a ceremony on the 80th anniversary of the meeting between Soviet and American troops during the Second World War.

Two days before, at least twelve people were killed in a Russian air against Kyiv. Ukraine’s ambassador demanded that Russian representatives be excluded from the ceremony. But Ambassador Sergei Netjajev showed up in Torgau anyway.

He was certainly not given the opportunity to give any speeches. Nevertheless, the German authorities appear in an extremely embarrassing day.

The longer Berlin lacks a functioning government, the more open the field for Russia to make Germany ridiculous. At the same time, daily air attacks are continued against Ukraine.

Germany has not participated in the most important European meetings held around Ukraine. Sitting Chancellor Olaf Scholz cannot decide anything – his only task is to keep the chair warm for Merz. The European strategy has therefore primarily been drawn up by Britain, France and Poland.

Without Germany, however, they have no money. It is simply not possible to decide anything substantially as long as Merz, the Chancellor of Spe, is buried in government negotiations.

Christian Democratic Friedrich Merz has built its entire election campaign on promises of an economically and politically strong Germany. He is an impatient nature and also – as opposed to Scholz – a convinced European. There is no doubt that Merz would rather be able to throw himself into European politics. But not even Merz can change that processes always take time in Germany.

Meanwhile, the Kremel -controlled Russian propaganda has put a great deal of energy into black painting Merz. That it happens was certainly to be expected. When Macron was elected president in France for the first time in 2017, he was subjected to systematic black painting. It focused mainly on his wife being older than he himself, which in Russian culture (where successful men always has younger wives) is considered incomprehensible and therefore suspicious.

Merz, on the other hand, becomes painted as Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels. In one of the state -controlled channels’ talk shows, even the appearance of the two men – Merz’s face is considered to be similar to Goebbels, which is presented as a proof. An absurd form of dirt throwing that is typical of Kremlin propaganda. It’s not about getting people to believe literally, but about getting them suspicious and confused.

The German government negotiations have been going on for almost two months. From left CSU chairman Markus Söder, CDU chairman Friedrich Merz and the SPD's two chairman Lars Klingbeil and Saskia Esken.

Kremlin’s aversions against Merz have completely concrete causes. Merz is a great friend of Ukraine, has repeatedly said that Kiev should get the German cruise robot Taurus and wants a strong Europe. In addition, he has already got through to take a giant loan to get Germany on his feet financially.

From the Kremlin’s point of view Would it be much better with a Chancellor who focuses solely on German issues, but does not want to make any major financial initiatives that can lift Germany. This means that you also lift Europe, and that does not want Vladimir Putin. The worse it goes for the European economy, the better.

Merz expectations are so high that he will hardly reach them. For Europe, the main thing is that he can at least get started. On May 6, the Bundestag votes on who will be a new chancellor.
