So many drivers throw garbage out the window

It’s ugly to look at, it’s bad for nature, and the bill for the clean -up is passed on to society. These are words that you often hear as the environmental and climate fight continues to take progress.

People are often busy pointing fingers at each other and polishing their own glory when it comes to fighting the ‘climate crisis’.

However, it seems that there are some things we are more in common than others.

It flows with garbage on the roadside and nature because drivers choose to use their car window as trash can instead of taking it with them and using the trash at home or one of the many public places that have been set up.

In a study that YouGov has done for Gjensidige, four out of ten Danes respond that they have experienced motorists throwing waste out of their car window within the past year.

It gamed in one press message

A number that is in stark contrast to the only six percent who admits that they themselves have thrown garbage out the window within the past year.

The results of the study may indicate that although many know that it is not okay to throw waste out of the car, there are still too many who do, says Lene Rasmussen, who is the injured director at Gjensidige.

« It is my impression that how many Danes could not think of throwing waste on the streets in front of others, it feels more free to throw it out of the car window, where you are fast. But it is extremely bad style and has both financial and environmental costs, » she says.

According to figures from the Road Directorate, they collect between 700 and 900 tonnes of garbage around the country every year, and here it is especially cigarette shutters, food packaging, bags and cans they encounter.

Waste that has in common that they have a tremendously long degradation time and therefore are detrimental to nature for years after being thrown out of the car.

« The garbage is a nuisance to the environment, wildlife and road safety, and it’s no harder than holding into a resting place or gas station and throwing it out, or waiting the short time it takes before you’re home at your own trash, » she concludes.
