SMS from suspected the killer: « May be dead shortly »
The 57-year-old man who is suspected of murdering the state of the memorial memorial, the renowned democrat Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, in a politically motivated act is still on the loose.
The Federal Police FBI offers $ 50,000 – equivalent to about half a million Swedish kronor – for tips that can lead to an arrest.
The suspected killer is described in US media as a Christian Trump voter who hated abortion.
In the man’s car The police have found a list of some 70 people who make up potential targets. The list includes politicians but also individuals linked to abortion clinics.
DN visits a simple wooden house late on Saturday evening at Fremont Avenue in Northern Minneapolis where the 57-year-old used to spend the night a couple of times a week when he works nearby.
David Carlson, a resident and landlord in the house, is a 59-year-old childhood friend to the suspected killer. Carlson tells DN that the friend was in the house on Fremont Avenue on Friday evening before the shooting took place.
At 18.30 David Carlson knocked on the door of the man’s room because he thought his friend seemed hungry. The 57-year-old explained that he was tired and needed to sleep. Carlson let him be. But about twelve hours later, a text message came: « I will be gone for a while. I may be dead soon, » he wrote.
By then, he suspects the police – not just murdered Melissa Hortman her husband Mark in the former President’s home, dressed as a police officer. The man must also have shot the democratic state senator John Hoffman with his wife, who is now being cared for in hospital but lives.
After the SMS contacted Carlson police because he became worried that the friend would hurt himself. Since then, the police have stormed the house where the two men used to spend the night. When DN is in place outside, a neighbor is in the process of helping Carlson look up masonite slices for the blown windows and the front door.
– I feel betrayed, I feel rage, I feel sad for his family’s sake and for his victims, Carlson tells DN.
– You can be upset by a politician. But to throw away their life this way? It is incomprehensible. He must have had mental health problems. But he hid them far within him. I never looked at him.
Did he often talk about abortion with you?
– – Yes. Or no, not much. But he didn’t like abortion. He equated it with murder. But then he went out himself and murdered.
Where did he get the weapons from?
– – He has always had guns. He was interested in it, we played military in the park as a child. We were fascinated by the military and by martial arts.
How can such deeds be stopped?
– People have to learn to relax. You can be upset politically but to throw away everything for a politician? The country is so divided. I’m out on it, I hate it.
Where is he now?
– I don’t know. I tried to call him this morning. He did not answer. The police do not want me to call him anymore. So then I quit.
– You hear about murderers. But to know someone, to feel a killer’s soul – for me he was not a killer. I hope God forgives him.
