When planning to redesign the balcony and when choosing outdoor furniture, interior designer Marta Bučinskienė advises you to start with the evaluation of space proportions.

Because most balconies are long and narrow, they will fit high, narrow shelves, allowing the full height of the wall to be used. Potla plants can be placed on the upper shelves and the lower ones can be stored in covered boxes.

For smaller balconies, folding tables and chairs, minimalist design furniture to help you make the most of space are a great solution.

« The division of the balcony into functional zones can also serve. One part can be for laundry, there may be a folding dryer that is easy to hide when it is not used. Another zone can be for rest: sitting or cozy corner, lit light bulb garland in the evening, » the specialist shares.

Easy to create coziness

The interior designer advises you to choose furniture specially adapted for outdoor use (this will help to ensure its longevity) and advises you not to overload the space – too much of the items reduces the feeling of comfort and hinders the presence.

Finally, according to her, it should not be forgotten that the balcony is a natural sequel to the home, so textiles in outdoor spaces – carpets, bright color cushions or pastel tones – significantly increase comfort and aesthetic image, helping create a cozy and pleasant atmosphere.

Depending on the size of the balcony, personal needs and creativity, it can become a breakfast place in the summer, a yoga practice space or even a small corner of the living room on warm evenings.

Green oasis at home

However, one clear trend is becoming more and more – the garden on the balcony. According to the interior designer, more and more people are turning their balconies into small green oasis – this trend is increasingly visible in Lithuania and other Baltic countries.

In addition to flowers, various vegetables and herbs are growing in pots more and more. This trend will only grow as the balconies are slowly becoming small botanical gardens.
