Slussen's bus terminal is delayed – even more

The plan for the new bus terminal at Slussen in central Stockholm is spectacular. The facility will take a seat in Katarina Mountain on Södermalm.

But the huge work – which takes place in a collaboration between the City of Stockholm, which is the builder, and Region Stockholm, which owns the facility – takes time. As early as 2022, the Regional Management Office noted that the multibillion project « Deviated heavily » from both the decided budget and the schedule.

The latest bid was that the facility would be commissioned in the autumn of 2025. Now the assessment is that the start of traffic needs to be moved until April 2026.

Eva Rosman, press officer For the Slussen project, writes in an email that the construction itself is in the final stage.

“After the facility is completed by the city and handed over to the traffic administration in August-September, a variety of measures are taken to make the facility safe for both bus travelers and staff. These include fire protection and functioning communication with rescue services and traffic management, ”Eva Rosman writes, pointing out that both the region and the city strived for a traffic start in 2025.

– It now turns out that additional time will be required to complete the plant. Traffic start is now expected instead until April 2026, she writes further.

At the same time she points out that both Parties work intensively to be able to start the start of traffic.

In anticipation of the opening of the terminal, the buses to Nacka and Värmdö may use a floating bus station at Stadsgården. This annoy the travelers Which now needs to walk about 800 meters to get to Slussen.

Slussen is one of the country's largest hubs for public transport. In normal cases, around 180 buses move per hour at the site during rush hour traffic and about 50,000 travelers.
