Slovenian tourism got a digital compass
When the precursor was founded 30 years ago, about 1.5 million guests visited Slovenian tourist resorts, today that number is 6.5 million. In order to continue to successfully develop this industry, one hundred presented National Tourism Information Center (Nist) that will represent the digital spine of this activity and is also part of Digital Strategies of Slovenian Tourism Development.
NIST is a complex system that connects different data and enables the measurement of environmental, social and economic effects of tourism, as well as data -supported decision -making in managing and marketing the tourist offer. Today, the beta version has come to life, and by the end of the year this center should include more than 30 cases of use and 70 visualizations.
Support for decision makers also
« We will be able to manage tourism with information so that it is environmentally friendly, that it is effective and friendly to all of us, not just tourists, » said the Minister of the Economy, Tourism and Sport Matjaz Han. He believes that NIST will also help politics: “Our ministry, which has a hundred problems with data, are also other ministries involved in receiving the legislation. Therefore, I will call on all ministers to use this portal to see where we are in tourism and where we want to get. «
Tourists’ arrival
The new digital center enables monitoring of the success of the sustainable development and implementation of the tourism strategy through the tourist index, which includes 12 indicators in the environmental, social and economic fields. It will also make it easier to direct tourist flows, identify trends, easier decisions and partial digitization of the green scheme. In NIST, we can learn that there are 59,366 employees in tourism, that the average guest’s stay is 2.56 nights, that the average gross salary in the hospitality industry is € 1756. « Nist is our digital compass, our key to understanding tourism during information overload, » said the director of the Slovenian Tourist Board (WTO) Maja Pak Olaj.
Monitoring the goals
As she explained to Workit is very important to be able to monitor the achievement of the goals from the development strategy with the tourist index. “As we have seen, this index is currently 89.9. In the future, we will also measure it for destinations, « explained the Director of the WTO. She added that in the future they will be easier to calculate their leading supporting skills, which will also facilitate the development of destinations.
“Promotion is our core business, and in the Fund for a new strategy, which is focused on increasing value added, we are increasingly engaged in development. It is easier to make the promises we make on the one hand on the other. There is also part of this, « said Pak Olajova, explaining that they also educate tourist stakeholders and give them tools for successful work.
The predecessor of today’s Slovenian Tourist Board (WTO) was the Center for the Promotion of Tourism of Slovenia (CPTS), which was established at the end of April 1995. With it, Slovenia received a national tourism organization responsible for marketing and promotion of tourism. She then changed her names, status forms, merged and split over the years, and has been working as an independent hundred for the last ten years. “The first months were traumatic. We had an empty cash register and empty offices, ”recalls PTS’s first director Franci Križan.
The WTO notes that in three decades, Slovenian tourism has made significant promotional and development steps. “With the vision, dedication and cooperation of all stakeholders, Slovenia has become the first green destination in the world and established itself on a global tourist map as a safe, sustainable and authentic destination for boutique experiences. In partner cooperation with the ministry, the Slovenian tourist economy, key institutions and product associations and other partners of Slovenian tourism, we have designed an authentic story of Slovenian tourism, which impresses visitors from all over the world, « said the WTO, which today has EUR 22 million for promoting our country and operating only.
