Skanderbeg Square gets ready for the European political community summit


On May 16, 2025, Tirana will welcome the sixth summit of the European political community (KPE), an important event that will gather at a joint roundtable leaders from 47 European countries, including EU countries, the Western Balkans, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Ukraine and others.
The event will be held in Skanderbeg Square, and will be chaired by the Prime Minister of Albania. Currently, the construction of the platform where the leaders of the participating states will remain on the square. This is the first summit of this level held in Albania, representing a historic moment for the country. Prime Minister Edi Rama has described it as an opportunity to place Albania in international attention and increase its profile in the global arena. To facilitate the development of the summit, the Council of Ministers has announced the dates of 15 and 16 May 2025 as a day of holiday for public administration employees in the municipalities of Tirana, Kamza, Vora and Kruja – excluding essential services. During this period, the city will be under increased security measures and temporary restrictions in circulation.

The main topics of discussion

1. The European security and sustainability of Europe

The focus will be on urgent issues, such as support for Ukraine towards sustainable peace, as well as long -term challenges related to the protection of democratic processes from foreign interventions and strengthening the continent’s collective protective capacities.

2. Competitiveness and economic security

This table will address economic development through innovation, construction of digital infrastructure, energy sustainability and strategic autonomy for critical supply chains, balanced climate goals with industrial strength.

3. Immigration, mobility and youth

Leaders will discuss the legal ways of emigration, cooperation with countries of origin and transit, and challenges related to preserving talent within national economies. At the center will be the empowerment of young people and their role in the future influenced by artificial intelligence and technological changes.
