For the survey, 1,025 Belgians were questioned between December 17, 2024 and January 13, 2025. In addition, twenty percent of them think that the switch to 100 percent electric cars will never take place. The main barriers not to buy an electric car are the energy crisis, purchasing power, the price, a lack of charging stations and skepticism about the ecological aspect. Also, seventy percent of the respondents do not want a second -hand electric vehicle, almost half doubts because of the battery. It is noted that young people are more positive about the transition to electric vehicles than people over 55.

In the barometer, the number of charging points was also highlighted. For example, 43 percent appreciates the increased number of charging points. Yet 51 percent would not make a long trip abroad in an electric car.

The insurer also notes in the barometer that the number of electric cars has increased seriously in the past year, but that the majority of them are (82 percent) commercial vehicles. The private consumer is not yet fully convinced of electric cars, according to Europ Assistance. In addition, people who live in the city are more inclined to purchase an electric vehicle. Half of the questioned say they are less willing to purchase an electric vehicle since the disappearance of the purchase premium of the Flemish Government.
