A good East Flemish Eightyer, Gilbert Heledt (85), has bought a strong argument in a Brussels supermarket with his life. Police and public prosecutor received six tips last weekend in the search for the railless perpetrator in the queue, a young guy in a training suit.

Victim Gilbert (85) went shopping on 8 March in Lidl, on the Gentsesteenweg in Molenbeek. When he had done his groceries, he went to the cash register and put himself in the queue. At that moment it challenged him that he had forgotten something. He let his shopping cart stand in line and went back to the racks to take the forgotten product.

« When he returned, a young man had taken his place, » says someone from Lidl. « The young man pushed the old man’s shopping cart aside. The older man who just walked back to his cart at that time saw that happen. He went to get a story and it came to a fight between the two, » said the witness.

Violence was used. The young man pushed the eighties and he fell unhappy. Gilbert sustained a skull trauma, that’s how we learn. He was unconscious and bleed on his ear. The man was taken to the hospital, but would succumb to his injuries a few days later. The young perpetrator has since been without a trace. After the fatal push, he just left his cart and fled.

Six tips, but golden is missing

The search for the unknown perpetrator has not been smooth in the past one and a half months. Although the supermarket transferred camera images to the Brussels-West police, that did not yet lead to a breakthrough. Last Thursday a national investigation message followed. The federal police call in the help of the general public. « The unknown man is between 25 and 30 years old. He is slim, has a beard and wears glasses. At the time of the facts he wore a light -colored training, black sneakers and a beige cap with motif. Those who have information can contact the free number 0800/30 300.”

On Sunday evening the counter stood on six incurred tips, confirmed the spokesperson for the federal police. « The golden tip was not there yet, the search continues. »
