Six out of ten Americans are ashamed of Trump
From the seabed of the sea, which he wants to take advantage of, to the Gaza Strip, which he intends to turn into a Middle East Riviera (after first emptying it by its Palestinian inhabitants), the… Donald Trump roller coaster.
But a hundred days after his swearing -in, it appears that this dedicated management of US and world affairs is causing bitterness and indignation even in the ranks of the Republicans in general, as well as those who voted for Donald Trump last November.
According to a poll by the IFOP polling Institute conducted for the website nyc.euwhich was first published by the French newspaper Libération, almost a quarter of the Republican (23%) voters said he is ashamed of his president.
They are ashamed to have President Trump’s president
When the survey is expanding to include all Americans, statistics are even more spectacular: three months after its reinstatement as head of state, almost six in ten Americans (56%) say they are ashamed of Donald Trump.
This unusual feeling over a democratically elected head of state is even more intense among the younger (60% of people under 25 feel this), the most privileged (60% among the highest income groups) and blacks (69%).
This shame is spreading by the president and the rest of the country: 38% of respondents said they were ashamed to be American today because of the decisions taken by the Trump government. This « sense of national humiliation », as IFOP reports, is more widespread among the younger (51%) and the most educated (42%), but « it also affects citizens who are generally more rightful, such as those who declare a lot of patriots (34%) ».
One in 4 Trump voters regretted voting him
A survey conducted in early April in a representative sample of US voters reveals an even more unlikely rate: one in four Trump voters (24%) now states that it has regretted voting for the Republican candidate last November.
Among those who describe themselves as « moderate Republicans », electoral … remorse is 33%, compared to 6% among Trump supporters who describe themselves as « conservative Republicans ».
This feeling of sadness and guilt is also higher among Donald Trump voters under 35 years of age (33%) or those belonging to a national minority: 34% of Trump’s Spanish supporters regret the November vote, as well as 38% of his blacks.
Do not approve him as president
Finally, six months after his victory over Kamala Harris and three months after taking up his duties, « the way Donald Trump manages his duties as president » approved only by a minority of voters (44%), « the lowest acceptance rate. »
« The rate of acceptance of the second Trump government has thus decreased by 6 points in the entire electorate, » notes the IFOP polls, a decline that is even more intense in male voters (-9 points in three months) and black voters (also -9). In addition, American atheists (70%) and black voters (69%) reject the president’s actions more strongly.
