Six injured in a heavy traffic accident in Vorselaar, four football players KCFE Zoersel were on their way home: « We are waiting afraid » (inland)

The accident happened around 10.30 pm at the intersection of Sassenhout with the Choevebaan. According to the first findings, a motorist drove a considerable speed in the direction of Vorselaar. The second car came from the opposite direction and wanted to turn left at the intersection. The vehicle was grabbed in the flank.

The blow was very fierce. Both cars were driven away. There were four men in the car that turned out, all football players from KFCE Zoersel. A man and a woman were in the approaching car. « We had to free three people, » says commander Danny van den Bergh of the fire brigade Zone Kempen. « It concerns two passengers from the car with football players and the passenger from the other car. »

Six ambulances

There were two medical intervention teams and six ambulances on the spot. There are four serious injuries. One seriously injured victim was transferred to the University Hospital in Antwerp. The other victims were divided between the hospitals of Geel and Herentals. The situation of one of the seriously injured victims was worrying.

« The football players had played a match against OG Vorselaar earlier in the evening, » says Mayor Simon Dens (Koester 2290) who arrived. « The accident happened when they drove home on barely one kilometer from the football ground. Some club members who followed in other cars saw the accident happen. »

« Via OG Vorselaar we offered them the opportunity to catch their breath in the canteen, but most chosen to follow their hurt friends to the hospital or drive home. Such an accident has to come in very hard for a sports club. We sympathize with them. »

Scared

At KCFE Zoersel there is of course great defeat after the major accident. The A-team had won 1-3 on Saturday evening on the field of OG Vorselaar, the accident happened barely an hour after the game. « At the moment we can only wait afraid and hope that good news will come from the hospital, » says chairman Steven Schryvers. The club holds a crisis meeting at 10 am.

For KFCE Zoersel it is the second drama in a short time, the club lost a player and volunteer earlier this year. He died in the aftermath of a major accident in which a driver lost control of his Porsche.
