In Australia, at least six people have drowned over the Easter days as a result of the high waves off the coast. A woman died near the metropolis of Melbourne in the state of Victoria after being pulled into the sea by the current. According to the authorities, a total of three other people were also missing.

On Maundy Thursday, the water rescue organization SLSA had warned against life -threatening waves, especially off the coasts of New South Wales and Victoria.
