Six dead in helicopter crash in New York

In a helicopter accident on Thursday in New York, six people were killed. The helicopter crashed in the Hudson River. On board were the pilot and five Spanish tourists from one family. Among the victims, three children would be reported Various American media. The bodies of all occupants have since been salvaged.

The accident took place at 3.17 pm local time, just over 15 minutes after the helicopter had left. According to local authorities, the helicopter reached the George Washington Bridge before the vehicle ended up in the river at an entrance of the Holland Tunnel, which connects the state of New Jersey with Manhattan.

« Our thoughts go out to the family of people on board, » said the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, during a press conference about the accident. Video images of the crash shows how the helicopter collapsed into the water without a tail propeller or main propeller.

« I heard five or six hard bangs that sounded like gunshots in the air and saw parts fall down, after which I saw the aircraft pouring into the river, » said an ABC News journalist who saw the accident happen. According to another witness, one of the propellers broke into pieces.  »

The helicopter was busy with his sixth flight of the day. It is still unclear how the accident could have happened. The police of Jersey City and the American aviation authority FAA are investigating the accident.
