Sister Slavka Batica: ‘His wife said I stop looking for him. She must have known the truth ‘

I asked him from the beginning. Through the Official Gazette, Radio Vukovar … They first sought blood for identification, and I immediately gave it. I had to do it all myself. I just voluntarily went to give blood, I had to push the rest myself, she told for RTL Sister Slavka Batica, Marija Freund Batik, three days after he was identified.

Recall that his recording of the removal by members of the enemy forces after the fall of Vukovar visited the whole world.

She spoke about the years of searching, pain and injustice. He has only one wish: to finally bury his brother in his native Ivankov, with his parents.

Slavko Batik is one of the 28 of so far identified casualties found in a mass grave in Petrovacka Doli, and it was it that became a symbol of suffering and injustice in the Homeland War.

His wife and daughter, as RTL learns, did not want to talk to reporters. However, the case of the County Councilor Nikola Kajkic, who emphasizes a controversial circumstance.

« Batik’s wife receives his military pension, although he was not a member of the Armed Forces, » he said.

Sister Mary herself expressed dissatisfaction.

– I think she felt safe until her body was found. He will now have problems with the pension status. Let her get something, but she can’t get a military pension if he was a civilian, ”she adds.

What hurts Mary the most is the feeling that during all these years she has been alone in the fight to find out the fate of her brother.

– I only have the desire to bury my brother in Ivankov. Because she has nothing to look for. I don’t need their tomb. I don’t need anything – just his bones. I can’t reconcile that he was on the dump, ”she said.

The belief is that Batik’s wife knew the truth all this time.

– She told me to stop looking for my brother. Then she called me and said she had a problem and that she could have been killed that night, that a friend told her to take refuge. I don’t know who that friend is. But I said – I won’t stop looking for him. That’s my brother, ”she added.

Particularly painful for Mary was that she found out the identification from the media.

– I am very outraged that she did not call me or her daughter to say – Aunt, Dad was found, will you come? said Mary, who came from Germany immediately after the knowledge.

The recording on which the Chetniks take Slavko Batica to death and today she is before her eyes. It was the last shot scene from the Vukovar war, and she never stopped believing that she would find him. Today, after all years of pain and searching
