Sister -in -law launches support campaign for Yousra (38), who lost everything in fatal fire: « a fatal victim was a friend of hers » (interior)

In the apartment building in the Zwarte Leeuwstraat, a short but fierce fire raged that killed a 42-year-old woman. Her husband and two children could escape. A third child was not at home at the time of the facts. The apartment was completely destroyed, just like that of their neighbor Yousra, a single mum of two children of almost 2 and 8 years old.

« Yousra and her children are currently being taken care of at my mother -in -law in Zemst, » says sister -in -law Kim from Lint. « She comes from a large and warm family that is always ready for each other. Everyone helps to support her and her children. Yousra herself is heart patient and is still in shock. She can only cry and hardly sleep. She constantly plays the facts in her head. The children are now also a bit more restless than usual. »

Burglary

At the time of the facts, Yousra and her children were sleeping upstairs. A niece that was visiting slept in the living room. « Her niece first thought that there was a burglary and stormed upstairs. They then locked themselves up in the bedroom, while Yousra notified the police. Fortunately, her niece still had the reflex to go and have a look. For example, she saw the smoke and luckily they could flee the apartment on time. »

« Yousra and the children only had the clothes they were wearing at the time, » says Kim. « The smallest, a girl who still has to be two years old is not yet realizing what happened. Her son was outside in his boxer shorts and has it harder with it. With the whole family we immediately dived into our cupboards to collect clothes and things together. We also started buying pampers and porridge for her daughter. »

Kim also immediately launched online support campaign. « Someone from the family wrote a text, » she says. « We immediately launched the call in different online groups. I am a nail stylist and I also asked my customers to share the message as much as possible. Clothes, toys, baby photos, memories, everything has stayed in the fire. We want to ensure that Yousra can count on a penny to start again. »

Worked hard

Yousra does not only suffer from material damage. She also lost a friend to her deceased neighbor. « She sometimes doesn’t know if she is weeping for her or everything she has lost, » says Kim. « She can’t comprehend it yet. So far she has not had contact with her neighbors yet. She is not yet ready. She tries to keep herself for the children, but she has collapsed emotionally. She also suffers from chest pain, possibly a consequence of the smoke inhalation. We are now trying to relax and advise her to read everything online. »

The fire has wiped everything away. « What remains is a warm family that makes every effort to keep each other up, » says Kim. « Yousra has worked very hard to get her house in order. And now everything starts again from zero. You would lose courage, luckily, she can count on her family who helps her step by step to get her back again. »
