Sirius Open begins in Zagreb: International Para Tennis Tournament


From June 20 to June 2nd, the 15th Sirius Open, an international pair of tennis tournament, which attracts top athletes from around the world every year at the Tennis Center Maksimir. More than 30 players from 13 countries are expected at this year’s competition, which will weigh forces in the male, female and junior category.

Among the participants are the leading junior of the world, Maximilian Tauher, the winner of the Junior Roland Garros, and the second junior of the world Luna Gryp, who will further raise the quality and competition in the junior competition.

– We are proud that for 15 years we have been organizing this competition for parasports and that we are providing Croatian competitors the opportunity to participate in this tournament, in our city and in front of our audience. Also, we are extremely proud that we have become a recognizable tournament in the junior category and for the fifth year in a row, Sirius Open has a category of juniors, and this year and the first on the current rankings in the boys and the second junior of the world with girls. We hope that the competition in this category will encourage all young people with disabilities to pursue pair with tennis or at least some other parasport – said Bojan Kovac, the director of the tournament.

Last year in the men’s category, the victory belonged to Israelo Adam Bedichevsky, while in the women’s category Britta Wend from Germany was brilliant. In women’s couples, Angela Grosswiler from Switzerland with Austrian Christina Pesendorf won. Argentine and Austrian, Ezequiel David Casco and Martin Legner, celebrated in men’s couples. The Roman Zechmeister of Austria is the winner of the Quadova category, Austrian Maximilian Taucher was the best in juniors.

The Sirius Open is part of Uniqlo Wheelchair Tennis Tour, which brings together top pairs of tennis tournaments around the world. As one of the 150 international tournaments held in more than 40 countries, Sirius Open is proud to represent Croatia on the global sports scene. The oldest is the international tennis event for couple athletes in Croatia, with a tradition of 15 years. It aims to encourage positive changes and increase the public awareness of this inspirational sport and its significant impact on the community.
