The city council of the Brussels municipality of Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe has approved a Cordon sanitaire against the extreme right, including N-VA. Striking: Les Engagés government party also signed.
A motion to protect democracy against the extreme right. That was the proposal from PS and Ecolo about which the Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe city council, one of the nineteen Brussels municipalities, had to bow this week. A majority has also approved it, but not without a striking addition of Mayor Olivier Maingain. He had the text included: « In Flanders, Vlaams Belang represents the most disturbing extreme right, N-VA states acts and political choices that are disturbing in that area. »
The municipality thus throw a Cordon Sanitaire against both Vlaams Belang and N-VA. The municipal councilors of Les Engagés also signed. However, that party in the federal government does manage together with N-VA.
« Very strange », also responds to Flemish Member of Parliament and Brussels resident Karl Vanlouwe (N-VA). Although he blames that on the pressure of Mayor Maingain. He founded the new Lib.Res party this week, after he had been torn from Défi. « He now clearly wants to profile himself in full. Maingain is a hull brew in the square. First he drove his own party in destruction, now he is going on that impetus. »
In the debate program The appointment on Friday (VRT) political scientist Bart Maddens also warned on Friday evening for the anti-Flemish sentiment that Maingain is in Brussels with his new party.
The attitude of Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe also fits in with the problems in the Brussels government formation. It has been standing still for ten months due to the Veto of PS against N-VA.
