Since the beginning of the year, the Language Ombudsman has received hundreds of complaints about violation of the law

Since the beginning of 2025, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language received 646 appeals for violation of language law. Most often, Ukrainians complained about non -compliance with its requirements in the field of service.

This year, the most complaints due to the non -use of the state language came from Kiev (251 appeals). In addition, they complained about the law in the following areas:
- Odesa (84 complaints);
- Kharkiv (71);
- Dnipropetrovsk (69);
- Kyiv and Donetsk (22).
Taras Kremin drew attention to the fact that cases of non-compliance with language law are widespread throughout Ukraine, but most of them occur in millionaire cities.

« The capital is a stable leader in the number of complaints. This indicates the need for city authorities to strengthen the control over the implementation of language law.
The more effective initiatives that exacerbate the mechanisms of affirmation of the state language, the stronger the law. I urge local authorities to be offensive in the protection of the linguistic rights of Ukrainian citizens’– he emphasized.
According to the linguistic Ombudsman, « one of the most sensitive » on compliance with the law on state language remains Service scopefor which Taras Kremin received 307 complaints.
Most often (175 cases) appeals concerned Internet pages (lack of Ukrainian version of sites or defaults by non -state language).
A little less (104 times) Ukrainians complained for the provision of services with a violation of language law and information about goods and services (28 times).
Taras Kremin noted that as of early 2025 there is a problem with compliance with the requirements of language legislation in the field of information for general acquaintance and advertising. In the first three months of the year, the Ombudsman received 128, of which 67 relative to Kiev.
Also Ukrainians have turned to the Commissioner 54 times because of violations in the field of education. At the same time, the most complaints (17) concerned higher education institutions.
In addition, the linguistic Ombudsman received complaints about non -compliance with legislation in other areas:
- culture (32);
- media (30);
- authorities (29);
- Healthcare (27).
After considering the appeals, the State Language Commissioner may take response measures, in particular, penalties in accordance with the Code of Administrative Offenses.
