Since the beginning of the year, more than 4.6 thousand people have died on the roads in accidents.
The traffic police of Russia published data on the state of accident from January to May 2025. In total, during this period, 44.4 thousand accidents occurred (+0.7%to the same period last year), in which 4.6 thousand people (–1.9%) died and 55.7 thousand people (+0.5%) were injured. Small accidents without dead or victims, in which only the “iron” was caused by the damage, do not fall into official reporting.
The number of accidents involving mopeds and equivalent vehicles (for example, powerful electric scooters) increased by 25% of the year, who died in these incidents – by 29.3%. The accident rate with the participation of motorcycles increased by 16.2%, which died in these accident – by 20.2%. The number of road accidents increased by 39.2%, the number of incidents with trucks and tractors, on the contrary, fell by 13.2% and 16.8%, respectively.
The reporting also presents data on certain types of accidents. Over the past five months, a 17 percent increase in raids on standing cars has been recorded. The number of bicycle raids increased by 14.2%, by 12% – the number of overshooting of vehicles. Accidents related to animal and horse -drawn transport have become 12% and 25% less than a year earlier.
Regions with the highest increase in accident rate – Ingushetia (+78.3%), Chukotka (+50%) and Tuva (46.8%). The subjects of the Federation with the maximum increase in the number of those who died on the roads are Oryol (+100%), the Ivanovo region (+70.6%), Kamchatka Territory (+60%). Leaders on the absolute number of accidents – Moscow (3 thousand accidents since the beginning of the year), Krasnodar Territory (1.9 thousand) and Nizhny Novgorod region (1.57 thousand).
