Siljanovska-Davkova: The UN exists to build peace not only among nations, but also with nature

President of the State Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova addressed the third Conference of the United Nations on the Ocean (Unoc3) to support the implementation of the target 14 for sustainable development « preserving and sustainable use of oceans, seas and sustainable development resources », held in Nice.

As the Cabinet of Siljanovska-Davkova informs, she emphasized the vital meaning of the ocean as the heart of the global climate system that absorbs a quarter of carbon dioxide emissions and provides half the oxygen needed on Earth.

-Siljanovska-Davkova pointed out that with our unsustainable models of production and consumption we disturb the ocean system. She pointed out that to deal with the crisis, effective multilateralism with strong United Nations is needed to build peace not only among nations but also with nature. According to the president, no country, no continent can independently establish and maintain peace with nature. She said that a symbolic coincidence is that the conclusion of the agreement on preserving and sustainable use of sea biodiversity takes place in the homeland of Michel Sera, the author of « Natural Agreement » in which people treat the country and nature as equal partners – the statement said.

Emphasizing the Macedonian commitment to dialogue and strong international management of the oceans, Siljanovska-Davkova emphasized that we welcome the declaration « Our Ocean, Our Future: United for Emergency Action » and that « we express support for the implementation of the purpose of sustainable development 14 and the action plan ».

-As a country, part of the Mediterranean, one of the climate most vulnerable regions in the world, we prioritize integrated water management. She estimated that this process would be much more effective if our accession to the EU is unblocked, said President Sijanovska-Davkova.
