Siljanovska – Davkova in Rome on celebration of the Day of Slavic Enlighteners
President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, who heads the Macedonian state-church delegation to Rome and the Vatican, will visit the Basilica « Santa Maria Maggiore » today, where she will pass a wreath of Macedonian Francis.
Vecer, as part of the event « Macedonia in honor of St. Kiril », President Siljanovska-Davkova, MIA’s rapporteur will attend the concert « Makedonisimo » by Simon Trpceski, an event organized by the Macedonian Ministry of Culture.
The Macedonian delegation led by President Siljanovska – Davkova yesterday at the San Clemente Basilica in Rome attended a prayer at the tomb of St. Cyril on the occasion of the celebration of May 24 – the Day of the Slavic Enlighteners.
The Metropolitan of Tetovo-Gostivar Mr. Joseph and Bishop Stobian, Mr. Jacob, accompanied by several clerics, participated in the prayer.
The Minister of Culture Zoran Sutkov, the director of the Committee on Relations with Religious Communities and Religious Groups Olivera Trajkovska and the representative of the Catholic Church of Protoerei Stavrofofor, Zoran Stojanov also attended the solemn act at the Basilica.
The worship of the tomb of St. Cyril in Rome is the central event in celebrating the day of the Enlightenment Cyril and Methodius. It was first organized in 1969 for 1100 years since the death of St. Cyril and since then on May 24, it is marked by the highest honors by the church-state delegation.
Traditionally, May 24 was only a day of educational institutions and educators, and since 2007 it has been a public holiday of Macedonia.
