There is no winner in the tariff war, and going against the world will only result in self -isolation, Chinese President Xi Jinping said at a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Beijing today.

He said that over the past 70 years and more, China had achieved development through self -confidence and painstaking struggle, never relying on the mercy of others, much less feared by any unreasonable suppression.

He added that no matter how the outside world is changing, China will remain confident and focused on doing its own work.

Noting that both China and the European Union (EU) are major economies in the world and strong supporters of economic globalization and free trade, he said both sides formed close relations of economic symbiosis with their combined economic production, which exceeds one third of the world’s total, Sinhua reports.

He urged China and the EU to fulfill their international responsibilities, to work together to protect economic globalization and international trade and jointly oppose unilateral abuse.

« This not only protects the legitimate rights and interests of China and the EU, but also serves to maintain equity and justice in the international community, while respecting international rules and order, » said Si.

Sanchez said China is an important EU partner, and Spain has always supported the stable development of EU -China relations.
Noting that the EU is committed to open and free trade, supports multilateralism and opposes unilateral customs increases, Sanchez said there was no winner in the trade war.

« Observing the complex and challenging international situation, Spain and the EU are ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China to maintain the international trade order, to cope with the challenges including climate change and poverty and to protect the common interests of the international community. »
