Shift some flying routes and hup: suddenly there is room for a new noise -free city at Schiphol. Is it really that simple?
It is a ‘charming idea’ to combat the fly nuisance of Schiphol with fewer routes, and thereby to free up space for building homes. « But I am afraid that the puzzle to divide the airspace with this proposal will only become more complex, » says aircraft expert Joris Melkert from TU Delft.
Monday present The National Advisor for the physical living environment Wouter Veldhuis a plan to shift two departure routes for twenty kilometers. Due to the loss of noise nuisance, a city could be built between Nieuw-Vennep and Hoofddorp, and neighborhoods in Amsterdam could be built in extra. « But with this proposal a new stakeholder actually reports to the layout of the airspace, » says Melkert.
REARAL AIRSUE
With the proposal to the Ministers Mona Keijzer (Public Housing and Spatial Planning, BBB) and Barry Madlener (Infrastructure, PVV) Minister Keijzer wants to « study and further explore and develop the possibilities. » Minister Madlener reacts more economically. « This proposal and its impact on the operation of Schiphol has not been sufficiently investigated, » he says. « Adjusting or deleting a departure route at Schiphol requires an intensive and long -term process in consultation with the environment. »
The College of Government Advisors said he has consulted « air experts », but not Schiphol itself and the Air Traffic Control The Netherlands was not spoken. The latter says that when investigating the adjustment of flight routes, an « integral analysis » is performed to ensure « that the safe use of air traffic routes is guaranteed in all circumstances ».
Prior to the proposal from National Advisor Veldhuis, there were already plans to return the airspace. That reclassification is necessary because, according to air expert Melkert, it becomes ‘busier’ in the airspace, and also needs military air traffic more space to practice. The necessary proposals have already been made for that. This planned reclassification could even mean that places such as Hoofddorp and Nieuw-Vennep do not get less, but more no noise nuisance. Madlener writes about the reclassification: « Purpose of the first step in that process is to enable sufficient practice room for defense and to limit flying. » Only after this reclassification of the airspace in the 2028-2030, says Madlener, is there « fixed approach routes, so that the sound impact can be reduced ». And: « It can also be considered whether adjusting one or more departure routes is desirable and possible. »
European airspace
In the proposal from the Veldhuis National Advisor, the question is also whether the new flight routes are safe, and not interfer with routes of upcoming aircraft, for example, adds air expert Joris Melkert. Flying routes above the small Netherlands must also fit within the European airspace. « Because the Netherlands is in width ten minutes and twenty minutes in length. » Finally, the small piece would fly into extra emissions from Co2 to lead. In short: « It is very complicated. »
Schiphol Airport says it has read about the plans, but does not repeat that it has been involved. « We’re going to look at it with interest, » said a spokesperson.
Finally, the municipality of Haarlemmermeer is also not very enthusiastic. Because of the quality of life « , the municipality feels more for the construction of a » large-scale park « between Nieuw-Vennep and Hoofddorp than for the construction of large numbers of homes. However, the municipality would be ‘positive’ against adjusting or no longer using the flight route between Hoofddorp and Nieuw-Vennep. « That would be a profit for the residents who now experience nuisance, » said a spokesperson.
