She was not ready on grandpa’s reaction
Caldwell told the US media Newsweek that it was ‘more a mental struggle’ than a physical one. During that time, she had to undergo eight chemotherapy and 10 radiotherapy.
« The treatment was exhausting and it was really hard to deal with the changes that happened to my appearance while I’m still in my 20s, » Caldwell said.
« Some of the physical symptoms were things I didn’t know at all, such as itching all over the body and acne on the face. »
But Caldwell, who is from Glasgow in Scotland, was finally allowed to call at 25 o’clock on February 25 to mark the end of his treatment at the age of 28. Her family helped to support her on the special day – including her 82 -year -old grandfather, Duncan Mills.
Mills was a great support for Caldwell last year, although he also had his own challenges. He underwent an ankle surgery in 2024, and although he is still in the process of his physical rehabilitation, he would be there to see his grandson call the clock.
It was only when Caldwell saw the video of the moment that she discovered how much it meant to her grandfather. In the background he could be seen crying, and it was clear that he was filled with pride over her.
« My grandfather and my whole family were a huge support throughout my treatment. He was even recovering from an operation while I went through my treatment, so my family went through a lot last year. But we got through it together and I couldn’t have done it without their support, » Caldwell said.
After ringing the clock, Caldwell went over and gave Mills a hug and he wished her congratulations on having overcome the cancer.
