« She reflects the reality of what I have experienced with others for a long time » – Liberation
It is rare that a cover is 100 % initiated by the theme of my albums. This is the case with it. Two combined events were the starting point. To celebrate the twenty years of our lives in two, we got married to Virginia, it was she who touches me on the cover below, on my right, and a few days later, my cousin, which I loved, committed suicide. It’s him with a cowboy hat on my left. So this album was built around the urgency of celebrating people around us. This idea of gathering photos to illustrate it came quickly enough. The aesthetics owe a lot to Caroline Sauvage, the graphic designer with whom I have been working for ten years. She had to manage different qualities and sizes. She made the typo of The frescovery epic, a bit as if it was a great adventure film or a western. ”
“The criterion was that it was people who counted for me and that I did not lose sight of them. I believe that this selection is very “regular”: I did not have fun putting only prestigious people or stars, but I also pretended to know only anonymous. It reflects the reality of what I have experienced with others for a long time. I had all these photos, some are mine. I also used vintage photos like the bass player of my high school group at the top right or sprinter Bruno Marie-Rose dedicating a photo when I was a child. It is also important that even for those who are no longer there, these are joyful photos: my grandfather, with a pap ‘knot, on the right, it is the day he remarried. ”
“Jean Rochefort, Alain Souchon obviously counted for me. Kinds of benevolent sponsors who gave me a lot of strength. Just like François Morel. I also had in mind when the singers receive a price, generally they cite people by thanking the teams. But it remains abstract for the public. So, here, we see the people of the label sooner or later, or guys who have been on the road with me since I started. I would like many people to wonder by looking at this cover: and I, if I had made this collage, who I would have put? ”
