She weighed 140 kg. After Ozmpic, she lost half of the body weight
– The smallest thing made me gain weight. Regardless of what I was doing, I couldn’t lose and keep her – says the woman in an interview with the British portal Metro. Ashley was obese and unhappy, she almost stopped leaving the house. She only left him to go to work, to school with a child and shopping.
At the beginning of 2023, Ashley decided to ask for help from a doctor. He suggested a stomach reduction surgery, but the waiting list was so long that the fastest possible date was in five years. Just then she decided on Ozmpic. It is a drug used to treat diabetes, but its active substance – semaglutide – reduces appetite, thanks to which it has found use in slimming.
After a week, kilograms began to fly
Ashley was not convinced that she would work on her. Finally, she tried to lose weight for years, trying diet, exercises, joining slimming clubs. And all this for nothing. But after taking the first injection, after a week the kilos began to run away. Although it was not without side effects – headache and nausea – Ashley was delighted.
– It was great. The weight began to go down very quickly and I noticed that the food was no longer calling me. I didn’t think about the next meal and what I eat. I had a smaller appetite and I felt full longer. At Ozmpic I could eat breakfast consisting of porridge and honey, and then not eat for the next six hours. For dinner I ate soup or something really small, and then a small dinner. It was amazing to see these numbers on weight. The more I lost, the more activities I could do. I walked, ran and lifted weight, which really helped. I felt amazing, because as a teenager I was athletic, and then I spent a piece of my life, not being able to climb stairs without breathlessness, « says Ashley.
Sagging skin and breasts remained
Thanks to the weekly injections until spring last year, the 38-year-old lost over 76 kg, which is more than half of her body weight. For the first time in years she founded jeans, she felt great. But, like everything, ozempic also has its dark sides.
– When I was overweight, I had a butt and quite substantial breasts. Now my buttocks and breasts have literally disappeared. I have nothing there now. I have more skin than fat and I only wear sports bras. I am completely flat. In fact, the breasts reach my knees. It’s all skin – he says.
After a drastic weight loss, Ashley was also sagging skin on the shoulders, thighs and stomach, which causes a woman to have complexes. He can’t imagine showing himself in a bikini.
After stopping Ozmpic, kilograms began to come back
– It is not possible to lose weight so much and not have loose skin. It’s inevitable. Instead, I hide it well with the help of overalls and other clothes, « explains Ashley. – If I decided to surgically remove excess skin, I would probably lose another 3.5 kg. It’s terrible. But I can’t afford it. It’s sad because I worked so hard to get the body I have – he adds.
In November last year, Ashley reached the target weight of 65 kg. But then she was dismissed from work and it turned out that she could not afford to spend 147 pounds (about 730 PLN) per month at ozempic. It was a turn in her adventure. As soon as she stopped taking injections, appetite returned and Ashley began to gain weight again. Within a few months it took over 12 kg.
« This is a daily fight »
« I could literally eat everything that would fall into my hands without medicine. » I could make toast with ham and cheese, then cereal, and one bowl would lead to another. I could go to a toast, which quickly turned into Nutella on a youth … When you are not on Ozmpic you have many whims, says Ashley. Currently, he is injections every week again and is well on his way to returning to his dream weight.
– The transition to Ozmpi was one of the best things I’ve ever done, but it’s not just the pros. Many people think you will lose kilos and the end. But this is a constant job. You must keep this weight. You always work on your body. It never ends. For me, the fear of returning kilograms is so strong that it is a daily fight. I’m worried about every thing I eat. I count calories, check the packaging – and it doesn’t end. Sometimes I am worried that I am heading towards eating disorders-says the 38-year-old.
Ashley is sentenced to ozempic for the rest of her life
In total, Ashley spent over 5,000 on the treatment of ozempic. pounds. Her doctor is convinced that she will have to take slimming injections for the rest of her life, which is confirmed by the latest research.
– Either people really have to accept it as a whole life, or we, scientists, we must think about how to support people after stopping the drug – says prof. Susan Jebb, one of the researchers of the University of Oxford conducting research on ozempic. After examining 6,000 People have been shown that patients taking GLP-1 drugs will gain weight within 10 months of their discontinuation, if they do not continue their healthy lifestyle.
Ashley, however, is not discouraged by this, and is not afraid of long -term side effects. – I have been on Ozmpic for two years and nothing drastic happened. At the moment I am happy enough to stay on it – he says.
