Several injured in fighting on Queen Astridplein in Antwerp: « At least one of them was stabbing wounds » (Antwerp)
In a fight with sticks and probably also a knife on Koningin Astridplein in Antwerp, three people were injured on Wednesday evening. The fighters fled away when the police arrived.
On Koningin Astridplein, in front of Central Station in Antwerp, a large fight arose just before 7 pm. The police received several calls about the tumult. « There were striking hits and sticks were used, » says Wouter Bruyns, spokesperson for the Antwerp police zone. Several police teams rushed on the spot, but on their arrival the group had run away in different directions.
Stab wounds
Witnesses and a blood trail pointed to the police in the direction of various injured people. Three wounded were found on the square and in the underground parking and a little further in the Van Schoonhovenstraat. « They were all transferred to the hospital for care. At least one of them was stabbing wounds and is seriously ready. No one is in danger, » says Bruyns.
Tracing research
Various witnesses and possible stakeholders filmed the facts and the police also investigated whether there are camera images of the fight. « We try to find out how and the why and try to map who was involved and who had what share in the facts, » says Bruyns. The places where the wounded were found have been deposited, the judicial lab will carry out a trace investigation.
