Serial killer Freddy Horion (77) would normally appear before the criminal court on Tuesday morning, where he would ask his release once again. But the hearing has been postponed because there was insufficient police capacity to convey him.
Serial killer Freddy Horion (77) has been locked up in the prison of Hasselt for years. He became unwell there last weekend. He had heart problems and had to go to the hospital. But his state of health would now be okay again, it is confirmed from a good source.
Normally he had to be taken to the prison of Beveren on Tuesday morning for a hearing for the criminal court. In recent years he has always been requesting his release or under the condition of electronic supervision. But a lack of police capacity could not be transferred. The session has therefore been postponed. His lawyer Walter Damen confirms that.
Johan Steyaert, one of the relatives of his victims, already received a telephone confirmation on Monday that this would probably be the case.
Euthanasia
On December 17, 1980, Freddy Horion was sentenced by the Ghent Court of Assisen to the death penalty, converted to life imprisonment. Horion entered the house of car dealer Roland Steyaert in Sint-Amandsberg on 23 June 1979 together with the late Roland Feneulle. Horion shot everyone in the house: father, mother, the eldest daughter, her fiancé and a twelve daughter. A few months earlier, on February 9, 1979, Horion had also killed Hélène Lichevsky, a shopkeeper in the port of Ghent. In the meantime, Horion has been in jail for more than 45 years.
« We hope that the criminal court can offer Horion Perspective. A release under conditions, or a move to a transition house »

Lawyer Van Horion
Horion recently applied for euthanasia due to unbearably psychologically. « For the sake of clarity, that euthanasia application is a very last option, » said his lawyer Walter Damen this weekend. « We hope that the criminal court can offer him perspective. A release under conditions, or a move to a transition house. Only if that does not yield anything, does Horion request that euthanasia application as a last option. It gives him the choice: what life do I want to live? A life behind bars, or euthanasia? »
